Johnny Depps Adventure Walk: Hello Amanda, Thanks so much - TopicsExpress

Johnny Depps Adventure Walk: Hello Amanda, Thanks so much for supporting Canine Adventure with a sponsor walk! I always like to tell our sponsors that it means so much to us and the dogs involved, and the depth of appreciation I have for you is unknown. There is nothing quite like visiting dogs at our local shelter and knowing that we have made their day just by a short visit, (or a lengthy sponsor walk.) Seeing them perk up and come out of their shells can really give us insight to their personalities, and let future families know if they are compatible. The lucky dog that you sponsored was Johnny Depp, a handsome active guy who was guided to me by a staff member. She told me that he could use a day out- he has a bit more energy then some of the other dogs. Hes a young brindle pit-mix, and when I went to take him out the sky was the limit. I know of a great spot to take pups that need a bit of exercise and we headed there in my truck. He was very well-behaved on the way over but did not waste any time to enjoy his day out. He kept popping his head over the seats to look out the windows while his tail wagged nonstop. We arrived at the Forest Hill park- where the Forest Hill Trail offers various climbing switchbacks that make you work to get to the end. Johnny Depp was pleased as could be- leading the way. But when he made wrong turns and I called to him, he had no problem correcting his path and coming towards me to lead again. I noticed that he was a bit more internally motivated, strongly interested in the world around him and not minding me so much. That was for the first half- after a good long walk he started to wind down and become super afftectionate. We had finished the trail so we walked around the lake where he tested the water out but was weary of the sinking mud. He spotted a tennis ball in the water and I fished it out, seeing his interest peeked once again. I have to say, Johnny Depp would make a great companion for somebody that just wanted a playful dog. That Tennis ball was the light of his life for a good ten minutes, he loved playing fetch and was excellent at letting me have the ball so we could play again. (He was on a 20 foot lead that he often got tangled up in, ;) ) It was really fun watching him just be a dog and not having any worries. He was definitely exhausted when we headed back to the truck, and he tuckered out and lay on the ground enjoying the AC blast. I was sad to take him back but I have my fingers crossed for him. Im so glad you gave us the chance to meet and I hope that we can find his new home soon. Ive got faith that if someone gives him the chance to let him be him, theyll absolutely love him. Johnny is available with Richmond Animal Care and Control. If youre interested in sponsoring an Adventure Walk for a rescued dog, please visit canineadventure.net/store/sponsored-walk
