Johnny Sparrow’s Perilous Adventure By Twin Kotiau A little sparrow left the comfort and protection of his nest, one morning, because he didn’t know where his mother had gone. He thought he could go out into the world to look for her. Thinking he could fend for himself, he wandered til he had gone out of the woods where he lived. He wandered so far that he had not realized he was lost, and that he was also in extreme danger. When his father arrived home to the nest, later that day, he soon discovered his little boy wasn’t there. His father went looking all around the nest, frantically trying to find his little son. The father called to all the other nests to see if anyone had seen him, or knew where he was. But, sadly nobody did. So he gathered a search party together, to help him search for his little son. “Oh my little son, my little boy, oh where could you be? Please come home safely my little chickadee. Your mummy has gone, and now, so have you. If I lose you as well, I’ll always be sad and blue”. Unbeknown to the little sparrow, at that moment a falcon was soaring high above him, looking for the right time to swoop down to pounce on his little prey. “ What a catch, what a catch. How easy can this be? What a tasty morsel you’ll make for my tea. It’s a treat for royalty, especially for a Peregrine. I just can’t believe your misfortune, will soon benefit me!” The little sparrow tried to fly as fast as his little wings would carry him, but it was looking quite hopeless for him. He wished, that he hadn’t left home. He wished that his mother were here. Oh, how he wished his brave strong daddy were right here at this moment to protect him. “Oh woe is me, little Johnny Sparrow. My heart’s pounding so fast, body trembling, and time is getting narrow. Who could save me from this peril that befalls me. Who would rescue me, and help me find my mummy?” There were some young tree mice playing in a tree nearby. They happened to notice all the commotion, going on. “Hey little sparrow, come with us and hide in our tree. It’s a warm safe haven from that ravenous fiend. Come hurry, quick scurry as fast as you can. You don’t want to end up being a part of his menu plan”. So into the hollow of their tree, they all scurried, where the little mice’s parents were waiting for them. They waited quite a long time for the falcon to go away. It took quite a few days – which, seemed to last forever. Finally the falcon got tired of waiting, because he was so hungry. So off he flew. Well this pleased everyone in the hollow of the little mice’s tree. They all celebrated merrily, and danced for joy, except for little Johnny Sparrow who wasn’t happy – no not at all. He still missed his mummy and daddy. “Don’t you worry, and don’t you fret, little Johnny. We’ll help you find your family. We know your mummy; yes we know where she is. High up on a hill, in a cave made of wood, all covered in mist”. This pleased the little sparrow so much. “Please hurry, take me there”, said little Johnny Sparrow. ‘”I don’t care about the danger, and I don’t care about any trouble. I just want to see my mummy right away. I miss her so much, I want to see her today. Please Mr and Mrs Grey, take me to see my mummy. I’ll be forever grateful, I’ll do whatever you say”. “Alright, little Johnny Sparrow we will. Take you to your mummy to the wooden cave on the hill. But there’s something else that you ought to know. Many a strange and ghastly things happen there. It’s a terrible place to go. You may not like what you see, when we get there. It may give you quite a scare”. So they all prepared for the long perilous journey – to find little Johnny’s mummy. (continued……)
