Join the Marion County Historical Society as we travel through time on Saturday, September 21 from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, September 22 from 10 AM to 4 PM. This event is at Sawyer Ludwig Park in Marion, Ohio and is free to attend. Our 2013 Travel Thru Time event includes Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War era reenactors as well as period crafters, and historic and modern vendors with goods for sale throughout the park. Plenty of food will be on hand for visitor’s enjoyment. There will be wonders of the 18th Century such as the Grand Camera Obscura, a fabulous tented contraption that projects outside images onto a white disc in a darkened tent. Jon Stealey, the proprietor, will also be displaying a replica of a Camera Obscura made by Thomas Jefferson, and a physiognotrace. Father, Son and Friends will be on hand with their Celtic styled goods and music Cds, as well as Bear Flag Mercantile with an amazing array of Civil War period goods. Many more vendors will be there with a wide assortment of items such as handmade brooms, jewelry, soaps, quilts, purses, pewter, leather goods, felted and knitted items, primitives, candles, honey, dishtowels and more! On Saturday and Sunday, guests will be given the opportunity to forage with the 121st Ohio Volunteer Infantry at intervals throughout the day. Tickets for the tours will be available at the Marion County Historical Society booth. President Abraham Lincoln will be speaking on Saturday at noon and there will be a Civil War Era Church Service at 10:30 Am on Sunday. When attending this event, visitors will see a multitude of reenactors dressed in period clothing, including Revolutionary War soldiers, settlers, militia, Civil War soldiers and much more. There will be vendors and craftspeople demonstrating many skills that were necessary for life on the frontier. Event guests will be engaged by blacksmithing, broom making, rope making, flint knapping, spinning, weaving, kid’s hands-on exhibits, tomahawk and knife throwing demonstrations, and much, much more!
