Join us at our Saturday Lecture Series on Saturday, February 1, at 10 a.m. (social at 9:30 a.m.), about the Port of Houston which turns 100 years old this year. Author and historian Louis F. Aulbach will speak on Houstons Quest for a Deep Water Port. A number of natural obstacles and political challenges had to be overcome before a deep water port for the Houston Ship Channel was established at the Turning Basin in 1914. Mr. Aulbachs presentation will examine this quest and how it was successfully accomplished. Aulbach is the author of five bestselling river guides to the rivers of West Texas. His most recent publication is a guide to Buffalo Bayou in Houston, which delves into the local history along the citys most famous stream.
