Makahiki: Protocols & Images Presented by Pā Kui A Lua with Umi Kai, Kamilo Lara, and Kaha Toledo TODAY 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. | Hawaiian Hall $10 general admission; FREE to Museum Members (w/ valid ID) In this special lecture event, guests will be presented with a rare look at the Akua Loa (aka Akua Lono) and the other images that accompany the Chiefly procession around the island during Makahiki - the ancient Hawaiian New Year festival, in honor of the god Lono of the Hawaiian religion. All three speakers, Umi Kai, Kamilo Lara, and Kaha Toledo hold the rank of Olohe Lua with Pa Kui A Lua, an organization dedicated to the practices and study of lua as a way of life. Through their teachings and demonstrations, theyll bring a greater understanding of the Makahiki tradition and its importance to the people of Hawaii. Seating limited!
