Join us for a celebration of Family Literacy Day with an array of author events, performances and activities. Kara Harun, TVOKids host of The Space, will emcee the event. This years authors include: • Helaine Becker (Ode to Underwear, The Quiz Book for Spies)... • Wayson Choy (The Jade Peony, All That Matters) • Lesley Livingston (Descendant, Wondrous Strange trilogy) • Ruth Ohi (Fox and Squirrel, Kenta and the Big Wave) • Kenneth Oppel (Silverwing series, This Dark Endeavour, Airborn) • Andrew Pyper (The Demonologist, The Killing Circle, Lost Girls) • Dan Riskin (Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You) • Patricia Storms (Never Let You Go, Good Granny/Bad Granny) • Kevin Sylvester (Neil Flambe series, Game Day: The People Who Make Sports Happen) • Mascots Captain Underpants, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Geronimo Stilton and Gruffalo And, an appearance by Robert Munsch, Honorary Chair (Paper Bag Princess, Love You Forever). Family Literacy Day (officially the 27th of January every year) is a national awareness initiative created in 1999 and celebrated annually to raise awareness about the importance of learning together as a family. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development. Even just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
