In this informative webinar, Dr. Depka will present a 5-step process that captures the purpose of the assessment cycle and will provide concrete examples. Step one is to clarify the target. What do we want students to know, understand, and be able to do? In step two, we will determine the format and purpose of the assessment. How will we know what students have learned, understood and are able to do? After creating and implementing the appropriate assessment, in step three we gather data and compare it to the target. Step four: we closely examine students’ strengths and challenges, and then evaluate them. In step five, perhaps the most important step, we work to close the gap between expectation and performance by employing different instructional approaches and materials, based on what we have learned about our students. Participants of the webinar will gain an understanding of the process, how to implement it, and a variety of ideas for both formal and informal ways to assess students.
