Judi Arndt on Textiles and Travels in Northern India, Myanmar and Cambodia in 2012 and 2014 I will briefly cover textiles from Orissa, The Himalays (Sikkim, Kalimpong and Darjeeling) From there we left the main tour group to travel on our own with a guide and driver in Assam, Arunchal Predesh, and Nagaland. This was a bit of a rugged trip, but exciting. We managed to see many tribal villages arriving after LONG rides. You will view several tribal costumes and some saris modeled by your members. This year we traveled further a field in Myanmar (Burma) and Cambodia. These countries have been closed to tourism up until a few years ago, but seemed to have developed a strong infrastructure for visitors. I managed to collect many textiles old and new which we will be viewing. During part of our tour in Cambodia we were able to visit a school breakfast program of CCDO ( Cambodian Child’s Dream Organization)giving a chance to interact with the children. We learned about the water well project set up in the area to supply safe clean drinking water. As part of that project Latrines are also being set up. Each of these items can be done for $250. Our group donated a well which we saw in the compound.
