Join us next Saturday as we share Mary Becks book, Areas of Preservation for the very first time with the public! Only 300 copies of this gorgeous Art Book will be available, and Mary will sign and number them at the reception. She will give a short talk about her book, the journey to bring it to life, and photography within its pages. The collection of photographs presented in this volume is part of an ongoing series that I began some 30 years ago. My time in the wilderness has been mostly spent alone, photographing some of the most pristine areas in the United States. Armed with minimal equipment and a reverence for nature and its elements, I have hiked through rainforest, walked out into the desert, skinny-dipped in mountain lakes, paddle through swamps, and camped under starry nights. My art is motivated by a fascination with exploring and recording everything involved in giving the landscape its form. The work is both an artistic and geological view, each landscape unique and waiting to share its special story to those willing to slow down and listen. ~ Mary Beck, Areas of Preservation
