Join us this Thursday at 6pm for the opening reception of: ADDIS SIDEWALK STORIES Addis Ababa is not particularly exemplary for its sidewalks. The sidewalks that do and did exist until recently are known more for the interesting stories they tell both about the variety of uses they are put into as well as the challenging and precarious navigations on them. Tessema Getahun, a self-taught photographer, has been documenting Addis Ababa’s sidewalks and other Ethiopian stories for over a decade creating an impressive archive of over fifty thousand images. He was born in Addis Ababa in 1950. He studied Finance and received his B.Sc. degree in Business Administration from California State University Fresno (CSUF) in 1974. He worked for the Agricultural Industrial Development Bank (AIDB) and Ethiopian Beverage Corporation until he started running his own private business in 1981. ASNI gallery is pleased to showcase a selection of Tessema’s images focusing on sidewalks in Addis Ababa. A small number of the images will be printed and displayed at the Gallery while a number of them will be projected on the wall during the evening of the opening on Thursday, 20 March 2014 at 6:00 pm. The photographer will be present for conversations with the audience.
