Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte has found an endorser for his possible presidential bid in 2016 in Communist Party of the Philippines founding chair Jose Maria “Joma” Sison because of his openness to forging a coalition with the rebel group. On his Facebook page, Sison wrote: “Duterte should become president if he is willing to have a democratic coalition government with revolutionary forces and other patriotic and progressive forces of our people.” The CPP founding chair, who lives in exile in the Netherlands, issued the statement after Duterte said in a television show last Dec. 21 that he is considering forming a coalition government with the CPP if ever he is elected as the next President of the Philippines. “I am open to a coalition with revolutionary forces and other patriotic forces,” Duterte said. “I guarantee that it will not be a communist government as it will retain the basic fundamentals of a democratic society,” he added.
