Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins cast for gay rights film Stonewall Dracula and The Tudors star will be a part of the cast for Roland Emmerichs passion project on the riots that kicked off the modern gay rights movement 04 JUNE 2014 | BY JOE MORGAN Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins the cast of Stonewall. Dracula star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has joined the cast for Stonewall, a film about the riots that kickstarted the modern LGBTI rights movement. Ron Perlman, known for his role in Hellboy, and teen actress Joey King, will also be a part of the drama. Jonny Beauchamp, Caleb Landry Jones, Karl Glusman, Vladimir Alexis and Alexandre Nachi complete the main cast. A passion project for the openly gay Independence Day director Roland Emmerich, it will be written by Brothers and Sisters’ Jon Robin Baitz. The drama will be about a young man, Danny (Irvine), who flees to New York after getting kicked out of his home. Befriending a group of street kids, he is introduced to The Stonewall Inn. But, the shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe haven. At the bar, Danny meets suave Trevor (Meyers) before catching the eye of the manager Ed Murphy (Perlman). A repulsive man, it becomes clear he is colluding with the corrupt police, exploits homeless youth for financial gain and is suspected to have had a hand in some of their ‘disappearances’. But when the police unexpectedly raids the club, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born. Emmerich’s previous films, including The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, have grossed more than $3 billion in total. - See more at: gaystarnews/article/jonathan-rhys-meyers-joins-cast-gay-rights-film-stonewall040614#sthash.xevtsrv2.dpuf
