Jose Aldo and Nova Uniao camp are urging Renan Barao to fight more cautiously so he can keep bantamweight title Im guessing whoever coined the phrase winning isnt everything never held a UFC title. Boo this man! Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo has been something of a mentor to fellow Nova Uniao fighter and UFC bantamweight champion Renan Pegado. Now that Barao has captured the 135-pound crown, Junior wants him to hold on to it for another 10 years. Even if it means playing it safe inside the cage. Aldo breaks it down for Tatame (via Bloody Elbow): The champion has a lot to lose. The challenger can give everything of himself, he has nothing to lose. If he wins, he will be beating the champion. In the future, I think Renan will think one more time before doing some strikes. Theres a part of him that is more cautious and we are always talking to him about how best to win his fights. I think Renan will be the champion for eight or ten years. He is going to rule his division for a lot of time. He is a young guy and he knows he cant be in his comfort zone. Sounds legit. If Barao follows his broskis advice, he may find himself the subject of public criticism. Not just from fans and media, but also from UFC President Dana White, who has gone on record to accuse Aldo of coasting through fights and being reluctant to pursue the finish. Which prompted this surprise outburst. Naturally, Aldo hasnt been the first UFC titleholder to rack up multiple decision wins. Georges St. Pierre and Ben Henderson each had a run of seven straight decision victories, with four of those coming during Smooths lightweight title reign. Its a part of the sport, I suppose, but that doesnt mean we have to like it.
