Josh Serums resignation letter from the board of directors of the SPCA Of Bradley County - TN. It was also ccd to local media: As you have probably heard by now I used Bobbi’s account to log into Shelter Buddy to look at the animal data. I wanted to see how the software was being utilized and to see what animals were coming through. I was originally slated to work with Jack Cooper on the software. I’m an IT person with 15 years’ experience. That is why I am here, to provide support. How can I do that if I’m not allowed? I was under the impression that it wasnt being used but rather physical paperwork was still being used. I fail to see why a board member wanting to see numbers is some sort of gross misconduct. All board members should have access to this and should be free to look at any paperwork as well. We are the governing body. Bobbi runs it. We watch Bobbi’s actions and make sure the shelter is being run properly under her direction. The fact that no one has any knowledge of this kind of information is concerning. So I am resigning effective immediately from my post as secretary and as a board member. I am resigning not as any admission of misconduct, but because my attempts to rectify the situations listed below and get information have failed. I will leave you with several things that have been brought to my attention: -- Reports of the shelter director’s complete mishandling of the puppy mill situation -- Reports of the abuse of animals within the shelter by way of leaving sick animals untreated and covered in feces for 4 days plus crammed in to kennels/carriers resulting in the death of some animals -- Reports of animals being left outside in carriers in the hot sun for 6+ hours while the director is telling personnel and volunteers to leave the animal there -- Reports of the lack of documentation being done on intake and throughout the animal’s tenure at the shelter resulting in in correct numbers being reported -- Reports of not using the software provided to keep track of the animals -- Reports of money missing causing the books not to balance -- Reports of shoving animals in to rooms that are not designed to house animals (e.g bathrooms) causing damage to the newly refurbished rooms -- Door locks being changed with no notice to the board leaving access with only certain personnel and volunteers -- Reports of preferred volunteers being allowed to bully, verbally assault and deny access to other volunteers -- Reports of volunteers barring access to people as they see fit (this should be the director if it needs to happen at all) -- The inability to contact the director via email or phone -- The director being reported as most of the time seen sitting outside smoking and on her cell phone -- Reports of paid employees being told by parties other than the director that they are no longer employees - Josh Serum
