Joshua 15 has an interesting side story. Caleb is taking his inheritance, his land. He comes to a certain region and declares whoever captures it he will give his daughter Achsah as a wife. Othniel captures it and he takes Achsah as his wife. Part of her gift from her dad is land in the Negeb, a desert, barren type of region. She then does something very uncommon for the culture and day in which they are living. Women, as a rule, are not forward or forthcoming with their concerned perceived needs. Yet, Achsah boldly approaches her dad, requesting he give her additional land, land with springs of water. Her request is stated in the form of a blessing and he complies. He gives her the upper springs and the lower springs of water. There are several issues for us here. First of all, when we receive a blessing from the Lord, we should be of a mind and heart to share it with others, especially our family. Secondly, women should have boldness in asking for that which will benefit their family (what good is land without water). Just because you are a woman does not, in the eyes of God; make you less than a man. God has given order to our relationship, which is important, but He also places equal value on all. Woman, you have value, you are important, so stand your ground and claim all your inheritance.
