Journalist friends and friends of all stripes: My sister-in-law, Kate Kirilcuk, is a fashion designer in NYC and has started a company called Not Blue Designs to create fashionable arm slings. She got the idea after she suffered a shoulder injury and found out that slings were all terribly ugly. So she started designing her own. Theyre made in Brooklyn and she sells them on Etsy. And theyre catching on. One of her designs is going to be worn on an upcoming episode of The Mysteries of Laura, the new Debra Messing show. I think this is a cool front-of-book story for any kind of magazine. Quirky but think about it -- if youre the kind of person who wears a suit to work, and you need to wear a sling, you can at least look somewhat professional.
