Journalists Told To Return To Investigative Journalism, Responsible Reportage - Akpabio Nigerian journalists have been tasked to return to the glorious days of investigative journalism and responsible reportage as a means of achieving peace and progress in the country. Governor Godswill Akpabio gave the charge Monday during an interaction with journalists at the Executive Chambers of Governors Office, Uyo, With the recent publication by the community Pulse with headline,Ibibio lawmaker manhandled in Annang land, I can say this publication and other publications from other local papers are inciting and can cause ethnic diversity in the state. So, there was need to call all of you to talk on the need for responsible journalism. Akpabio stated You are custodians of peoples conscience and people tend to read what you write. So, I encourage you to do everything possible to ensure harmony. With that write up it could cause so much pain to every family in this pain. I try in my administration to carry all ethnic groups along so that I dont cause disunity amongst ethnic groups in the state. Im so concerned about the conscious of ethnic harmony amongst Akwa Ibom people. According to him, I try to touch every sector of the state. Like recently, I have set up a special team on the 14th of November to start the re-construction of roads in Oron Local Government Area and we also commence the dualization of Eket-Ibeno Road that would be adorned with street lights, which entails that we are committed in changing the face of the state. So, when you start up ethnic sentiments, you might not know where it would land. Lets try to get harmony in your reportage. Dont create a state of division. Akwa Ibom state is the Jews of Nigeria where God has blessed us with intellect. So, lets live in harmony and benefit from the blessings of God for I came to build the state and not to destroy it, he said. He further call on the press to go into investigative journalism and not dwell on the negative stories always. Chief Akpabio also disclosed that by 2015, the next Governor would be produced by the people and nobody would be imposed to the people, and urge Akwa Ibom people to work together with the state government to make the state a better place.
