Joy In this day and age it seem like we are never content. We - TopicsExpress

Joy In this day and age it seem like we are never content. We run from thing to thing trying to experience some kind of joy or pleasure. James words echo in my soul, Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.(James 1:2-4) What about Jesus when He went to the cross? Hebrews 12:2 says this, We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew that later on he would be glad he did. Now he is seated at the right side of God’s throne! Another translation says, for the joy set before Him, Christ endured the cross... His joy was found through His pain. His joy was saving you. There are those churchy phrases you hear, most of which there is no Biblical reference for them, they are just phrases people say. Anyway, I heard someone say once, If you were the only one on earth, Christ still would have died for you. There is no scripture reference to back this, but knowing the character of God and His desire for us, I will say there is truth in that statement. The more I open the scriptures and dig into His word, the more I understand why endured what He did for us. His love is so great. His desire for us unending. We are His pleasure, the apple of His eye. Here is my question today, where are you finding joy? Is it in stuff? Is it entertainment? Sporting events? Money perhaps? Or is God your source of joy? If you are down, what is the first thing you run to? Food? TV? Other people for comfort? Believe me, I just stepped on my own toes a couple times there, but this is what God is asking us today. Who is your source? Have you ever heard the idiom, that wont hold water? It actually comes from a scripture, Jeremiah 2:13. My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. Running to anything else, is like running to a pit in the ground that leaks and hoping to get fresh water. The water you get there is dirty and gross and doesnt satisfy. John 15:10-11, If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Fathers commands and remain in his love. These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. There are going to be rough patches, but going through them with Joy makes all the difference. Remember we are all in this together. Keep praying, Keep seeking, Keep reading.
