Joy was scheduled to be removed from life support on October 30, 2012 at 10:30 am CST. Instead, God gave the attending physician and surgeon the wisdom to wait. Within minutes we all learned that God had delivered a dream to the physician who had been directing Joys care. In the dream he was shown an undiagnosed problem with Joys heart. Within hours Joy was in the cath lab and they had found the problem. She would have her second open heart surgery the next day. In Luke 15 Jesus shares the parable of the lost sheep. A shepard has 100 sheep but when even 1 is lost, a good shepard searches for it. When he finds the lost sheep he joyfully puts it to his shoulders and goes home. When they told us it was time to remove Joy from the ECMO, they said she had a less than 1% chance of making it. When they took her to the cath lab one doctor told us that they had a less than 2% chance of finding anything that could be fixed. Notice the difference- 1% or 1 in 100. There was a 99% chance that Joy would not live to see the next day. The doctors were concerned she might not even make it through the cath, but we knew better. We knew OUR GOD LIVES IN THE 1! We knew, as soon as they said we were going to wait to take her off ECMO, that God was moving. He was looking, He was searching, He was finding the 1. We are forever thankful for a Father that never forsakes. He pulled Joy to His chest and allowed US to carry her home! Tears flow freely as we remember the shift from weeping to celebration that occured a year ago today. We may be the only family that has ever cheered for heart surgery! Today we see our Joy, a promise fullfilled, growing and smiling. She is a true miracle in every sense of the word. WE ARE BLESSED!! For in all this you will have great JOY though now for a little while you may have to suffer grief in all kinds of trials These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith- of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire- may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed Though you have not seen Him, you love him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious Joy 1 Peter 1: 6-8
