A group of investors announced this week they had bought the land in New Caney, Texas, off Highway 59 and FM 242. One of the investors, Chuck Hendrix, CEO of Innovative Leisure Partners LP, said they purchased the land from IBC Bank. Site work is underway and the ground breaking is scheduled for sometime this fall, said Hendrix, who is the former general manager of Astroworld. Innovative Leisure Partners will manage the park, which will include a water park, dining, retail and an upscale RV resort, in addition to a plethora of other options that are expanding daily, Hendrix said. Houston-based Brae Burn Construction Company Ltd. LLP is the initial contractor for phase I, which should be completed in 2015, Hendrix said. Bob Runyon, principal at Dallas-based GHA Architects, is the lead designer on the project. The project has been in the works for several years with developer and the Woodlands resident Monty Galland, another investor, at the helm. Galland has been working with the East Montgomery County Improvement District on the project, which was first introduced in January. Hendrix said he has personally been working on the deal for two years, and that they kept getting more and more inquiries for expansion opportunities for the project, which is expected to cost in the mid-nine figures. In addition, the investors recently sold 20.2 acres on the site for the RV park to an undisclosed third party. We have enough acreage to keep us busy for a while, Hendrix said.
