Julie Thomas, caretaker of the Japanese American Archival - TopicsExpress

Julie Thomas, caretaker of the Japanese American Archival Collection (JAAC) at Sacramento State, has graciously given me permission to post historic Tule Lake photographs from the collection on this site. The goal: to continue to gather information on the specific locations/occasions for each photo, to identify the people shown in them, and to accurately translate any captions imprinted on the photos. Since many of the generations who might be able to help with such information don’t use Facebook, please feel free to share the photo and/or the link to it with any family members or friends who might potentially have knowledge to share. The picture shown here was taken in September 1945 and is of the Ward 3 Japanese Language School. This photo and its accompanying information can be viewed in full at digital.lib.csus.edu/cdm/singleitem/collection/jaac/id/470/rec/5. Special thanks to Hiroshi Shimizu, my father-in-law Bob Ikeda, and one unidentified 2014 Pilgrimage attendee, who helped with identifications made to date for this photo, and to Masa Yoshikawa, who assisted with a partial translation of the photo caption. We will be very grateful for any information you might be able to provide. With respect to any Japanese writing on photographs, the most helpful approach would be to provide a translation in three forms: (1) a transcription of the Japanese characters into Japanese words (romaji); (2) an exact translation of those words into English, keeping the Japanese word order; and (3) a translation into English as we would say customarily write it. Thank you in advance for your help with this project!
