QLD -- TROPICAL CYCLONE WATCH -- UPDATE Media: The Standard Emergency Warning Signal should NOT be used with this warning. TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 3 Issued at 10:45 pm EST on Sunday 2 February 2014 A Cyclone WARNING has been declared for coastal and island communities from the NT/Qld Border to Kowanyama. A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal and island communities from Port McArthur to the NT/Qld Border. At 10:00 pm EST [9:30 pm CST] a Tropical Low was estimated to be 80 kilometres west of Mornington Is and 170 kilometres northwest of Burketown and moving east southeast at 27 kilometres per hour parallel to the coast. The low may develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours. The tropical low situated near the NT/Qld border is expected to continue moving in a general eastwards direction during Monday, while developing. The tropical low is expected to enter far southern Gulf of Carpentaria waters tonight and the system may form into a tropical cyclone to the east of Mornington Island late Monday or early Tuesday. GALES are expected to extend around 100 kilometres out from the centre and may develop about coastal and island communities between Port Roper (NT) and Kowanyama (Qld) late Monday or during Tuesday. Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is possible about the Gulf Country district tonight and over the next couple of days. People between the NT/Qld border and Kowanyama should take precautions and listen to the next advice at 2am EST. - Information is available from your local government - For cyclone preparedness and safety advice, visit Queenslands Disaster Management Services website (disaster.qld.gov.au) - For emergency assistance call the Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500 (for assistance with storm damage, rising flood water, fallen trees on buildings or roof damage).
