July 05, Saturday-- Unbelievable weather in New York today. Much lower humidity today. We first went down to 86th Street and walked over to The Met. My parents and girlfriend had never been there before. We only planned to spend a couple hours there so we focused on the European Paintings gallery. I prefer the landscape paintings from the 17th-18th centuries, but dont shy away from Boschs apocalyptic scenes and Vermeers expertise in realistic small portraits with flourishes of pearl earrings. My parents really enjoyed the Rubens and Rembrandts. Next, we walked out to the center of Central Park and saw the dance party... 80 year old shirtless men on skates; bodybuilder on skates, dancing; man with 3 water bottles balanced one atop the other on his head, on skates; shirtless waif of an older Asian man in white spandex tights, skating; man with a spinning basketball atop an American flag, while skating; another older Asian man dancing in place with Michael Jackson mannerisms. Needless to say, its difficult to stop watching such a scene. My parents loved it. Over to Fairway. Picked up the vegan treats. Then up to 97th Street to eat the vegan split pea soup (excellent), garlic knots (even better), and vegan sausage-broccoli-red pepper-onion pizza at Cafe Viva. Its been a great first week of Summer Break 14.
