July 11 Thursday, 14th Week of OT, St. Benedict, Abbot, memorial R1: Gen 44: 18-21. 23b-29; 45: 1-5 Gospel: Mt 10: 7-15 Reflection by: Fr. Emanuel Wora, SSCC Everything is for God’s Kingdom ! “Just be a good apostle and let God work through you”, we can say that to summarize what the Gospel told us today. Every good baptized man or woman, who is conscious of his/her faith in Christ, should be aware of the baptism that he or she has recieved and has lived since then. The baptism is not an ordinary moment of our life as a Christian. It is an extra-ordinary one. We can say in other words that it is a basic experience of our being christian, of our being disciples of Jesus. One of the elements of this basic experience – the Baptism – is our being chosen and being sent by Christ as his apostle, that means as a messager of the Kingdom of God: “As you go”, says Jesus to us in today’s Gospel of Matthew, “make this proclamation: The Kingdom of heaven is at hand’. We are sent to proclaim the Kingdom of God, and first of all, we proclaim it by our life, or more precisely by our being in the life with others, that means by our presence among others. That is a basic and a simple thing that Jesus asked us to do in our mission: our being with others, especially with those who really need our presence. Of course, it has to be a simple but a good presence: it is a supporting presence, a touching and a transforming presence. In fact, this is all that we should contribute in our mission, and for the other contributions we can faithfully expect them from God. Jesus told us clearly in today’s Gospel: “Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. ”. In others words, we have no reason to be afraid to do our mission as christians. We have no reason to doubt of our being able to work for God’s cause. Just be a good apostle, just be a good christian that means just live our faith simply but concretely, and let God work through the simplicity of our life to spread his love and his grace to everyone with whom we live. Everything is for God’s Kingdom, but in fact, everything is simple. We do not need to do great things in our life in order that God’s Kingdom can be realized. We just need to simply be in our life.. to simply live our faith and to simply love God, especially through our love for others. We are called to be the artisan of peace, as Jesus said: “As you enter a house, wish it peace. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it”. The simplicity of our being, of our life as christians is in fact the very source of peace. Amen.
