July 15th 2002: Bob Seger won the 78th annual sailboat race from Port Huron to Mackinac Island, MI with his 62 foot boat Lightning. 1999: Grateful Dead singer & guitarist Bob Weir married girlfriend Natascha Muenter. This was Weir’s first marriage. 1999: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off the North American leg of their reunion tour with a 15 night stand at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ. 1998: Aerosmith’s drummer Joey Kramer was involved in a freak accident when his car caught fire & was completely destroyed at a gas station while filling up. He was treated for second degree burns & Aerosmith had to postpone 14 concerts as a result. 1989: While Pink Floyd performed on a floating stage in Venice, their audience of 200,000 ended up causing damage to Venice’s bridges & make marble crumble from centuries-old buildings. 1988: Robert Palmer was the musical guest on Late Night with David Letterman. 1978: The Rolling Stones reached number one on the Billboard 200 Album Chart for the seventh time with Some Girls which began a two week run on top of the chart. Some Girls would later go on to be their biggest selling album after it was certified Platinum six times in 2000. 1973: The Kinks’ Ray Davies announced onstage during a Kinks concert at London’s White City Stadium that he would be retiring from music.
