July 20, 2013 Why? If you are a parent or if you remember when you were younger, you remember saying or hearing your child say “why?” It did not matter what was going on or what you were doing they would always ask why? You tell them you are going to the store and they say why? You tell them the sky is blue, they say, “why.” You tell them just anything and they will ask why? They never get tired of asking why, although we as parents might get tired or their relentless questions. The interesting thing is God our Father never tires of hearing us ask why? He knows that it is the way that we learn and grow in obedience to Him. So, go ahead and ask Him all of the why questions you desire an He will gladly in His time answer them. Timing is so important when we talk with God. If our children are just starting to talk and they ask why the light is on, they are not ready for you to explain electricity to them. Likewise we are not ready for some the answers to some of the questions we may have in the spiritual realm. That is why we need to understand what He says in Ps 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” The New American Standard says, “Stop striving,” or don’t worry I’m God and in time I will fill in the blanks to all of your questions. So, we can ask Him why He’s waiting so long to save our lost loved ones for which we are burdened? We can even express anger and disappointment and ask God, why our child was not spared this illness or had to die? We can pour out our frustration to Him and ask Him why we haven’t found that job we need? We can cry out to Him because we are childless and ask Him why we are childless and why we have lost a loved one prematurely? Such questions as these, as we ask why do not threaten Him. He knows we’ll never find a moral weakness in Him. He encourages us to be honest with Him so that we can discover the thoughts and feelings that are in our hearts. Once we bring them to the light, we can ask God to help us deal with them. Sometimes the answers to our why’s is the only way we will come to know His tender love and God’s way of showing us how much He loves us. So here is the “Why” questions for us, why are we so hesitant to be honest with God? Perhaps, we’re the kind of person who tries to avoid conflict. We won’t even tell our loved one or friends any of our negative feelings or we may think it would be a lack of faith to challenge God. Many of us have accepted society’s idea that struggle and love don’t go together. We assume that a relationship is good only as there is peace and harmony. The fact remains that we all struggle in relationships because we really do care. And finding the courage to struggle and take risks and confront, is what strengthens and deepens our relationship. The same is true in our relationship with God. Like Jacob at Bethel, we do well to wrestle with God once in a while. When we do, it can bring us His blessing (Gen 32:24-32). What is on your heart that you need to pour out in way of asking God Why? Is it a personal need that you have and you’ve been asking God why He has not intervened? Remember the apostle Paul had and illness or a “thorn in the flesh” that he asked God to remove. He even reminded God that he had asked Him 3 times to take it away but God had not done so. In 2 Cor. 12 it is as if he ask God WHY, and God gives him an answer. God told him that in his weakness, he would not be puffed up in pride and would have to trust Him because God could be magnified through his weakness. So, go ahead and ask God your why questions, He can handle them. You will be glad that you did, and in His timing He will answer.
