July 23, 2014 Urquidi Qualifies for Winter U.S. Nationals, Santander Breaks FGC Records Gulliver Swimmers Shine at Speedo Sectionals A group of ten Gulliver Swim Club senior swimmers competed recently at the Speedo Southern Zone Sectional Championships in Orlando, Florida. The meet featured 79 teams, 776 swimmers and included a strong mix of Olympians, Olympic Medalists, World and National Champions, and collegiate swimmers from several major Division I universities. Overall, it was a fantastic meet for our swimmers and consisted of several personal best times and significant time drops. Several of our athletes were able to take their own swimming to new and greater heights while also having the opportunity to compete against some of the best swimmers in the world. Niki Urquidi, Andrea Santander, Brooke Ellis, Natalie Aulicino, Nick Nord, and Nick Carter all earned spots in the evening finals during the 4-day competition. Sean Arrington, Cole Moreno, Ricky Hermida, and Gabi Leon also turned in some great performances. Niki Urquidi qualified for the Winter U.S. National Championships in the 200 and 400 Freestyle events and earned the U.S. Junior National Championship standard in the 1500 Freestyle. For the 15-16 year old age group, Niki’s times currently rank her #14 in the United States for the 1500 Freestyle, #15 in the U.S. for the 400 Freestyle, and #20 in the nation for the 200 Freestyle. Andrea Santander, broke the 11-12 year old Florida Gold Coast records in both the 50 Free and the 400 Individual Medley at the Sectional meet. Andrea’s time of 27.17 in the 50 free currently ranks #1 in the United States while her time of 5:07.71 currently ranks #2 in the nation for 11-12 year old girls. Lastly, Brooke Ellis’ 7th place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:21.23 ranks her # 2 in the Florida Gold Coast and #6 in the State of Florida for 15-16 Girls. Congratulations Gulliver swimmers!
