July 28: GRATITUDE: for the fresh rain this weekend (we havent had rain for almost a month now which was good after our excess in June but we were starting to need it now)- and more little piggies :) After a busy weekend with step-grandkids visiting, getting more meat birds and then yesterday picking up two more little girl piggies and stopping off at the rodeo - I am trying to catch up here and get my laundry caught up and pick up the house between doing chores and pulling weeds in the garden. The rain helped to soften the garden soil so I am trying to make the best of it and pull as many weeds as I can before it gets too hot out there but I just came in for a drink and saw that my internet service seemed to be working so I better catch you all up here too. :) On a sad note - a very sad note... we came home with our new piggies and I noticed that something wasnt right in the farm yard. My Turks didnt come rushing to see what I was doing and get tangled up under my feet. It seems while we were gone my two dogs had to have a little play with some birds. I lost one turkey and cant find 3 more. I feel like my heart has been tromped on. I was sad for my poor turkeys because they trusted me and depend on me for protection. But I think what hurts the most is my Little Dog was the instigator of the whole idea. The little dog who I spend all my time with and who sleeps with me at night time and who is my constant companion. I left him home with Big Dog while we spent the afternoon getting the new piggies... and came home to a wreck! He knows he is in the bad books but the damage is done now. I have been warned that if it happens again the dogs are gone... and that hurts too. Dare I say... Damn it! The hurt is pretty big all around. I am trying to get set up here so we have our own male and female animals so we can raise our own and sell the extras so we can at least pay for the feed and fences and provide healthy food for our families... but when something like this happens the profit goes down the drain pretty fast. It would be like a large city company a whole shipload of product that would have pushed the company up and into profit... only mine is just 3 turkeys, not a whole ship load... Such is how things go... we pick ourselves up and brush ourselves off and see what could have been done differently and go forward from here. Big Dog is here to keep strangers off the property and to keep the wild life out of the yard. Little Dog is here for company... but if they arent doing their job... well.... :( Sad Karry Ann and Kritter Krew PS. I will post pictures of the new piggies later... they are the perfect picture of happy pigs in a messy pen!
