July 9, 1937, artist David Hockney is born in Great Britain. Hockney studied art at the Royal College of Art and became one of the leading Pop artists in Great Britain. He and Andy Warhol became friends, and both have dealt with homo-erotic subject matter. Hockney has also been a print maker and photographer, and is well known for his paintings of swimming pools in LA, California and portraits. He lives primarily in Great Britain now, but maintains an office and studio/home in California.
