There are options from surgery to conservative crate rest. Many improve over time - though the level of progress is different for each dog. AND if a dachshund DOES becomes permanently paralyzed he can still live a very full life. I think the most important message is NOT TO KILL your dachshund because of IVDD. Theres no shame or judgement in knowing your personal limits. IF you cannot care for a special needs dachshund, please consider surrendering her to a dachshund rescue, sanctuary or rehab facility for rehoming. There are folks out there who will love a special needs dachshund and care for him or her. AND if you decide to keep it, you have a community who will support you.
