June 10 Holy Tears My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God. O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour! Job 16:20,21 Have you ever considered that crying out to God with holy tears has a way of cleansing our spiritual eyes? Well, just as a physical tear washes the physical eye of any disturbing substance, so a heavenly tear cleanses us of spiritual impurities. What’s more, holy tears affect the lives of others. The struggles of coping with everyday life, the seemingly endless barrage of filth, the lack of spiritual leadership in the pulpit and countless other problems have laid waste the dry hearts of the masses. But the moisture of a heavenly tear is a God-sent shower to the spiritually barren. In fact, your tears can fall on the parched, cracked soil of people’s hearts, preparing the way for the life-producing seed of His Word. Do you long to see a deep, holy move of the Spirit? Do you want to see God come down in a way that would cause everyone to proclaim, “This is the presence of the Lord”? I remember reading a story about William Booth, challenging a group of hard-preaching but ineffective evangelists. His message to them was simple: “Try tears, try tears.” Put into practice the words of Richard Baxter, “Go to poor sinners with tears in your eyes, that they may see you believe them to be miserable, and that you genuinely pity their case. Let them perceive it is the desire of your heart to do them good.” Is there someone today who needs to hear your heartfelt words of comfort and encouragement?
