June 13 Christ. . .is your example. Follow in his steps. For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom form any. Whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all. Though he was God, [Jesus]. . . took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. Jesus went around doing good. Share each other’s troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ. I plead with the gentleness and kindness that Christ himself would use. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Father, forgive these people, because they don’t know what they are doing. Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Christ did. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterward. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven. Businesses, organizations, and institutions measure greatness by personal achievement. In Christ’s Kingdom, however, service is the way to get ahead. The desire to be on top will hinder, not help. Look for ways you can minister to the needs of others.
