June 22, 2013 Update - 8:00 pm Silver Fire Heading North – The Silver Fire pushed further north today as the weather continued to be working against firefighters for the fifth straight day. The fire is 56,700 acres, but with strong winds today another increase in size is expected following a mapping flight tonight. Tomorrow, the Northern Arizona Incident Management Team will have crews construct indirect fire line on Hay Mesa, Hermosa Trail and in Animas Canyon. They will also burnout lines from NM State Highway 152 north to McKnight Ridge. Crews from the state of New Mexico will begin fuels reduction in the community of Cooney and risk assessment in Hermosa. Due to the size of the fire, 88.675 square miles, the firefighters are using several different types of water sources. Resources assigned to the fire include five 20-person hotshot crews, three 20-person crews, five helicopters, 15 engines, one dozer, eight water tenders for a total of 463 personnel. Five additional crews have been ordered to assist in fire line construction on the east and west sides of the fire. Silver Fire updates can be found on Inciweb at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3414.
