June 23, 2014 Verse for today is I John 1:7, “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (Emphasis mine) I am so glad that God does not pick and choose which sins He will forgive. He does not look at our past and say, “I will forgive that sin and not forgive this one.” Or “Oooh, I think that sin is too bad, I can’t forgive that one! John said, “The blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanses us from all sin.” My I paraphrase this verse to read, “The blood of Jesus Christ His son is able to cleanse us from all sin.” I want to share a story with you I had heard years ago “Remember the Duck. A little boy visiting his grandparents was given his first slingshot. He practiced in the woods, but he could never hit his target. As he came back to Grandma’s back yard, he spied her pet duck. On an impulse he took aim and let fly. The stone hit, and the duck fell dead. The boy panicked. Desperately he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to look up and see his sister watching. Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing. After lunch that day, Grandma said, “Sally, let’s wash the dishes.” But Sally said, “Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen today. Didn’t you Johnny?” And she whispered to him, “Remember the duck!” So Johnny did the dishes. Later, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing. Grandma said, “I’m sorry, but I need Sally to help me make supper.” Sally smiled and said, “That’s all taken care of. Johnny wants to do it.” Again she whispered, “Remember the duck.” Johnny stayed while Sally went fishing. After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally’s, finally he couldn’t stand it. He confessed to Grandma that he’d killed the duck. “I know, Johnny,” she said, giving him a hug. “I was standing at the window and saw the whole thing. Because I love you, I forgave you. But I wondered how long you would let Sally make a slave of you.” - Author Unknown How long will we allow the Devil to make a slave out of us over our past? Psalm 103:12, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Micah 7:19, “He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” I remember when Linda and I took a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary. We splurged and got a room with a balcony and each morning we would have our devotions and eat breakfast there. As far as you could see there was nothing but water, an occasional ship or boat but the floor was the foaming, waving movements of the ocean. One particular morning I was thinking about Micah 7:19, “You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” I took an index card and tore it up in little pieces and through the pieces out in the air and watched as they sank into the water. I could not have gone off that ship and found those pieces to save my life. That little exercise reminded me that all of my sins have been thrown into the “depths of the sea.” They are not even floating around, they have drowned. Praise God! I challenge you to enjoy the forgiveness that God has extended to you through His Son Jesus Christ. PRAYER TOGETHER: Heavenly Father thank You that the words You spoke to the guilty lady in the temple who was surrounded by accusers is the same words You whisper to us today, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Thank You that in that same chapter we are given the Words, “He who the Son sets free is free indeed.” Thank You for setting us free from our past and forgive us for not living in that freedom. Thank You that sin confessed is sin forgiven. In the Name of Your Son Jesus Christ who loved me so much that He died for me, amen.
