The current version of the bill calls for $40 billion for “border security” additional 20,000 border patrol, increasing the number to 41,000, increase droned surveillance, aircraft , marine vessels, surveillance equipment, infrared cameras towers, additional 700 miles of border fending and the construction of more detention centers. The new funding will expand an immigration enforcement apparatus that already receives more federal dollars than all other federal law enforcement agencies combined, according to a report by the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute (MPI). “Unfortunately, the Senate has allowed special interest to turn the urgent need of immigration reform into a “piñata” for numerous military contractors and private prisons whose fortunes could benefit significantly by the bill as it stands today,” stated Jose Luis Gutierrez, President of the Board of Directors of the Red Mexicana “The emphasis of military type solutions as a strategy to secure the U.S. Mexico border and the flow of undocumented immigration will lead to more deaths and human rights violations. The United States must differentiate national security from immigration policy. Border security should be developed with the direct participation of civil society and local governments from the border community,” said Angela Sanbrano, Chair of the Red Mexicana Human Rights Commission. “Border Policy should promote and support economic growth, trade, social and cultural exchange and jobs in both sides of the border not militarization. Building a “Berlin” type wall is a huge waste of tax payers resources.” stated Efrain Jimenez, Vice President of the Red Mexicana The Red Mexican will continue to advocate for a just and fair immigration reform that legalizes the 11 million undocumented people that now live in constant fear of deportation. We will continue to work for polices that guarantee the Human Rights of migrants and that Mexican migrants are treated as contributors to the social, political and economic future of both countries instead of people who pose danger or a threat to the United States. ### The Mexican Network of Migrant Leaders and Organizations (Red Mexicana) was founded in 2007 by leaders of Mexican associations, federations, associations and individuals to coordinate and promote public policy that affect to quality of life of their communities in the United States and their place of origin
