June 30, 1951 – Delno Wayne Kellar and Alice Ann Hawkins were married at 8 p.m. at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Harry Hawkins, in Waldo, Arkansas. Doug Lawyer officiated. Today we pay tribute particularly to the memory of Andy Thomas Ritchie, Jr., (1909-1983). God rest his soul. Andy was the worship leader one summer during the 1940’s for the 16th St. Church of Christ in Washington, D. C. He met Miss Lura Kellar, an elementary teacher in the Chevy Chase, Md., public schools who was also a member at the 16th St. congregation. He spoke of Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, where he taught Bible. Miss Kellar was so impressed she offered and insisted that nephew Wayne leave West Virginia and attend the unknown-to-him Arkansas school. Also included in the arrangement was her offer to finance his education. I, on the other hand, had known about Harding for a while. A visit from Harding’s chorus at Waldo’s Church of Christ during my teenage years served as the absolute deciding factor. I had planned for years to enroll at Harding. The rest, as we say, . . . Today, our 62nd anniversary, we say Thank You, God. Thank you, Andy. Thank you, Aunt Lou. Thank you, our parents. And thank you, Harding. Wayne and Alice Ann P.S. We’re aiming for 62 more.
