June is World Elder Abuse Awareness Month. The number of individuals aged 65+ is projected to grow immensely in the US over the coming decades. This means that millions more people will be vulnerable to elder abuse, which includes not only physical abuse, but also emotional and financial abuses. Aware of the importance of this issue, I have cosponsored H.R. 3090, the Elder Protection and Abuse Protection Act. This bill would amend the existing structure of the Older Americans Act to provide for better incorporation of elder justice activities into senior services and state planning. We must take better care of the people who took care of us.
