Junior Cadets treated to concert as end to training Story and Photos (in AT2013 Album) by Pfc. Haley E. Haile CAMP ROBINSON, Ark. – The students of this year’s Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge were treated to a special evening of music provided by “106th and Groove”, the rock band team of the 106th Arkansas Army National Guard band, June 6 at Chappell Armory here. 106th and Groove made an appearance before the crowd of 502 cadre and junior cadets as the students wrapped up a week of learning Soldier skills, like map reading and water survival. The Rock Band gave them a chance to finally take a break and enjoy themselves. “Not only do the junior cadets get a chance to relax, this shows them a side of the military they wouldn’t normally get to see,” commented Staff Sgt. Patrick L. Hanson with Recruiting and Retention Command, battalion operations. “It was a side I’ve never seen.” The Rock Band plays a mix of hit artists ranging from “The Black Eyed Peas” to “The Commodores”, keeping any and all in the audience entertained. 106th and Groove performs for troops and civilians alike. “Our broader goals are always to provide entertainment for our Soldiers and foster public support of our communities, all the while telling the Army story,” reflected Chief Warrant Officer Keith Dortch, commander of the 106th Army band. “Our group gives them a chance to hear something that is familiar, gives them something to grasp onto what is common,” observed Staff Sgt. Tyrone J. Block, the music performance team leader. “It allows for a nostalgic moment to be built.”
