The Sling Studio have been busy behind the scenes collaborating with talented textile designers on our winter ranges. Designed by......Hannah Kirkbride Hannah Kirkbride is a print designer and textiles design consultant based in Manchester, UK. Inspired by Mid-Century textiles and art/science collaboration, Hannah designed “Jupiter”, which incorporates space and planetary motifs with the 50s influence coming from the atomic burst, in reality developed from the flower of a castor oil plant found in an urban park. Always keen to depict a narrative in her design work, Hannah thought about ways she could include a children’s story or fable in a wrap, a talking point to be enjoyed by mum and baby. Hannah explored other designs in the Sling Studio’s collection and was particularly drawn to bee motifs featured in “Buzz” – the worker bee being the emblem of Manchester as tribute to the part the city played in the Industrial Revolution. A quick flick through a book of Aesop’s Fables revealed Jupiter and the Bee and gave Hannah the green light to design a 50s flavoured, solar system inspired baby wrap. Hannah decided to include the eye of the storm on Jupiter and linear tracks reminiscent of a Lucienne Day print were a final nod to the 50’s. newsprint.org.uk
