Just Sharing...a Thought: Remember this, my dear Brothers and Sisters: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and should not get angry easily. James 1:19 (Gods Word Translation) In the KJV it says, Be swift to hear, that does translate to quick to listen. To be quick in listening means that you have practiced and worked on keeping your mouth shut. There is no way that we can be quick to listen if we are quick to snap a response or a retort. There are a lot of people who are quick to hear and ready to snap back giving no place for listening. When I was a boy I was a prime example, for as my Mother would say, Did you hear me!?, I would say, Yes, Maam so she wouldnt say again whatever she said that I didnt want to hear again, so there wasnt any listening or even learning going on. So it seems that I went on and did exactly the opposite of what she said. Paul wrote in I Corinthians 13:11, When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. Brothers and Sisters, as we grow up in Him through the lead of His Spirit within us, let us desire and with focused choice, be quick to listen. Let us take a moment to think and engage the spirit of a sound mind that He has given us, before we open our mouth and set that tongue of fire a burning. (I Timothy 1:7; James 3:6) Oh, that we might kindle Godly thought, care and understanding before we set that tongue in motion. Quick to listen, slow to speak as we allow His Spirit to calm our thoughts, feelings and nerves in tense or challenging situations, putting out even the spark of anger, is what our Lord is teaching us through His Spirit within us, if we will listen. In this we gain control of the situation rather than it gaining control of us. May we speak, Pleasant words, for they are like honey from a honeycomb- sweet to the spirit and healthy for the body. (Proverbs 16:24) Not only will this dispel a bad situation and defeat Satans desire to dim our light, that we are desiring to shine for Jesus; we will gain an approval of our Lord and stand therefore in the strength, truth and example we are hoping to stand in. (Ephesians 6: 13&14) In much Christ family love and care, Bro. Don But Speaking the Truth in love may grow up into Him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ.
