Just a few thoughts and then out of cyberspace for the night. For those that think Mental Illness is the problem and not the gun wielding criminals who commit terrible crimes, consider a few things: 1) If you were mentally ill, your perception of the mentally ill would be completely different. 2) Because of the ignorant public and media outlets, yes I am talking to all of you, consider that your stigma of the mentally ill, may actually hold back those who suffer so they wont have to suffer your stupid ignorance. YOU ARE VERY MUCH PART OF THE PROBLEM! I mean, after all, do you want to seek out something that would classify you as a maniac ready to take down the nearest fast food joint? 3) Lets get statistical! The mentally ill are 2.5 times more likely to BECOME the victim of violent crime, than their sane neighbors. So basically, we should be much more afraid of you! 4) And finally, food for thought. If we had no mental illness, we would miss out on creative thinkers from the time of Aristotle. (We actually include Aristotle in our community of the mentally ill.) This means, no Jim Carrey, no Nicolas Cage, no Roosevelt, no Marylin Monroe, no Silvia Plath, no Virginia Woolf, no Edgar Allan Poe (who fathered the detective story), no Demi Lovato, no Catherine Zeta-Jones. I could go on, but I think I have made my point. Now for reality: Those without mental illness, Hitler (Syphilis was his issue, done to himself, not the commonly accepted theory of schizophrenia), John Wayne Gacy, Jeffery Dahmer, Pichuskin, Hijackers of the 9-11 planes… need I continue to make my point? Bottom line, Unless you would be comfortable lumping yourself in with the likes of these latter criminals, DONT PUT US THERE!!! You speak from ignorance, you speak from stigmatizing vantage points, not to mention, you speak as though you are better than us.
