Just a friendly reminder… antibiotics dont work on viruses, so - TopicsExpress

Just a friendly reminder… antibiotics dont work on viruses, so they are ineffective in cases of viral infections. Over prescribing antibiotics is one of the biggest reasons we have antibiotic-resistant infections, like MRSA, resistant strains of tuberculosis and gonorrhea that will only respond to one class of antibiotics. There are some estimates that we will have no effective antibiotics for these infections in the next decade or two. Though its the job of your doctor to not over-prescribe antibiotics, you can do your part by trying to support your immune system when sick instead going straight for the meds and if you do have to take them, take them as prescribed! That means taking the whole prescription. Stopping when you feel better means that the weakest bacteria were killed, but the ones that have some resistance, will persist and be able to multiple and share the genes for resistance with other bacteria. Taking the full course of an antibiotic is the best way to ensure that as many of the bacteria are killed as possible! And dont forget to take your probiotics afterwards to replace your gut flora!
