Just a fun non-cancer story to share :) A couple of months ago, I got a frantic call from Blake at school. Some jerk face stole his phone....off the teachers desk....while it was charging. When Blake noticed it was gone, he told the teacher and the teacher held the class and tried to call it...but the jerk face thief had turned it off already. The school resource officer got involved and wrote up a report. I contacted our provider to have the phone shut off and then logged on to iCloud to initiate a remote wipe....but not before I added a very colorful message announcing that the phone was stolen. If and when the phone was powered on, the message would appear and the phone would wipe. The detective assigned the case loaded the serial number into a database to check it against possible pawn store drops. Last week I had a voicemail from a 1800 number...and I forgot to listen to it. When I finally remembered, my jaw dropped. It was a rep from EcoATM, a kiosk where you can sell phones on the spot for money. They had his phone at the recovery center in California. She told me that when the phone was taken back to prep for resale, the colorful message I left appeared and they called me right away. I was able to give her the serial number, make and model to confirm it was his. She told me that each kiosk is equipped with cameras (real time, worker bees can see each transaction as it happens) and you have to insert a drivers license and take a fingerprint. They would be able to give that information to the detective to track down the sticky finger jerk face. Last night I got an email and FedEx tracking number - that phone will be back in my possession tomorrow - no cost to me. I was not liable to pay them the payout they paid to the jerk face. Awesome! Never thought wed see that phone again, but because of the stupidity of the idiot that sold it to that kiosk, we got it back! Score!!! #ecoATM #jerkfacethief
