Just a little rambling here on some thoughts that were running around my head during our ride... Humility, plain basic humble-ness, is completely absent in Texas. Churches are not simple houses of worship, they are multi-million dollar temples that seem far more suited to the worship of mammon than congregations of folks attempting to emulate the simple life of Jesus, houses are obscenely large for the size of families that inhabit them, trucks are jacked-up, tires are over-sized, farms arent hundreds of acres to grow food, but thousands of acres to raise cattle, belt buckles are huge, cowboy hats are so big theyre called ten gallon, god doesnt provide the sun and the rain, he pays folks in Texas rent and finds them good parking spots and obsesses only (it seems) over their personal happiness, Texas cities are obvious over-compensation, screaming, not simply saying, to the world, WE ARE RICH! WE HAVE OIL AND CATTLE MONEY! WERE NOT HICKS!, manners, or what pass for them here, boils down to fake saccharine sweetness to your face followed by vile and vicious concerned talk about you behind your back, state pride is little more than loud bluster and sophomoric boast. All in all Im certainly happy to be back home, though seeing home through more opened eyes. This short week of traveling sure has peeled of some of her sheen...
