Just a random thought to share. So, Ive been snooping around on Ebay and Etsy while I drink morning coffee, and it just floors me how so many people who are looking to sell an item take such shitty photographs. Throwing a bunch of items onto a messy couch, or pictures that are blurry and out of focus - I dont care how great the item is - unacceptable and I blow right over it as a potential buyer. Same is true for photographing artwork. I dont care how beautiful the piece is - if I cant see it, or its in a setting that shows dirty underwear and old microwaved t.v. dinners in the background - even if youre Rembrandt, no way. I wouldnt buy that if a gun were held to my head. Why? Cause as a buyer myself, the first impression / presentation is so so important. It tells me a lot about the seller (artist, or not), and gives me insight into how serious / careful / thoughtful / creative / excited a person is about what it is they are putting out into the world. Clean, clear, concise, consistent and colorful. Thats how I like to see my photos of things I will buy, and how I think anyone who has something to offer should go about it. Just my humble opinion, of course.
