Just a thought: Growing up, Ive always heard and followed suit with the tradition of stating/asking (after reading a scripture in the company of others,) May God add a blessing to the reading of His word. In recent years I have noticed a lot of people saying things like, Gods word is already blessed. - Frankly, that bothers me. I believe some people think the prayer to add a blessing is asking God to bless his word.....it is not. So for those of you who have adopted this new saying in place of the affirmation of Gods Word, let me share this. Rev 1:3 (NIV) states: Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Please dont eliminate or replace this affirmation after reading a scripture because it reminds us (that know) and informs others (who dont know), that there is a blessing in speaking, hearing and ultimately living by the Word. It is a prayer based on scripture and putting it out there is never a bad thing as Gods word NEVER returns void. #dontcheatyourself ~That is all~
