Just a week or so after many of Labradors youth head off to school, I got to thinking about my Student Union and Grenfell administration days. We used to fight for greater local control and lower tuition to encourage an educated province. Though tuition is no where near the true cost of education for Labrador students who have expensive travel to access education we ALL pay for, institutions Labradors resources pay more than a fair share towards. I wrote a column about the costs to our students a couple years ago to travel away for school. I wrote how a University campus in Labrador would not only reduce costs, enable more youth to attend, but how many jobs and other benefits a university campus brings to a region. theindependent.ca/2012/02/02/improving-access-to-education-for-all/
