Just after 1pm the building assignment was dispatched for the old Gamma Swim Club. Reports from initial callers was smoke coming from the building. Not long after the units from Broomall (53) Newtown Square (41) Manoa (56) and Brookline hit the streets, a large column of smoke was seen for miles. Quint 53, and Ladders 41 & 35 arrived all within minutes of each other and began setting up for master stream ops. Crews began to gain access to the gated in area and used ground monitors to begin knocking the fire. After Engine 56 dropped nearly 2500 feet of supply line to L41, and Engine 53-2 hand jacked line though backyards to L35 aerial operations were mounted dumping thousands of gallons of water onto the building. The crew from Brookline was back in town around 4:30 after battling the fire for 3 hours in the heat that was in the upper 90s. Special thanks to EMS crews from Marple, Narberth, Llanerch, and Rocky Run for their help with rehab and providing cold water to those operating.
