Just after I posted last night things began to get complicated. Jonathans pain never let up. Blood began to appear in the bile drain. Blood pressures were high, then lower and lower for awhile. Heart rate went up and he began to have a fever. To make a long story short, he had four more units of blood and some Vitamin K and some more fresh frozen plasma. More blood and plasma will probably be in the schedule for today as well as lots of blood work to keep tabs on things.The pain meds were increased last night beyond the norm to allow him some sleep. This morning the doctor said we can keep up with the bleeding and replace the blood but it doesnt find and fix the problem. They will do a CT scan as soon as the techs show up this morning but it will only show where fluids are collecting and doesnt signify what is blood or from whence it comes. If his pressures drop significantly and stay low (so far they havent been low consistently) we may be forced to choose an arteriogram with the contrast which is potentially destructive to the new kidney in order to locate and fix the leak wherever it may be. The doctor here is not willing to make that choice yet and the big boss is in Africa right now, aware of the situation but not ready for that choice yet either. If Jonathan can get his own clotting factors to work here since the bleeding is not too rapid, he may be able to take care of it with just some extra blood. If the bleeding picks up, we will have to take the risk to the kidney and just try to help it recover. Meanwhile the G tube had stopped draining and Jonathan woke nauseated and threw up about a liter of stuff just as the nurse was trying to unstop the drain. He is back on suction for awhile. He has had a periodically uncomfortable night, though he has slept. When he is awake he isnt able to talk much, either from pain or weakness, but still was able to joke with the nurse this morning. I didnt go to sleep til after midnight but did sleep for a few hours uninterrupted (I missed some of the activity). Gods grace has been sufficient and I have strength for each day as long as I dont dwell on how long (or how many in a row like it) the day might be! Your prayers are being answered for Jonathan and myself here and Jim back at home. We appreciate the support very much!
