Just as damaging as a madman shooting a deadly weapon is someone who lies to a friend and then says, “I was only joking.” (NLT) ( Proverbs 26:18-19 ) Wow. Well I guess I need to look at things. Thanks for pointing this out Lord. Sarcasm. Yup you heard it. At times our sarcasm can just get out of hand and it is going to translate in such a unloving way to those that are watching. I am not saying lying like this verse is saying but sarcasm can come across as a lie or just as cutting and hurtful. Is that our intent? Probably not, especially when it is with your spouse or someone close. But this just rang closer to home then you know and clicked in my mind as soon as I read it. So lets let to it. Ready? Dear Lord, help my words in every setting and every situation. Help my words to Speak Life and build up others. There is a time and place for jokes but help my humor grow in other ways besides sarcasm. Because as this verse is pointing out to me and maybe others, that is just not working anymore. I value the ones closest to me and help me to change my thought process so that I am not unintentionally doing damage to them and causing more soul wounds. Heal my soul wounds that may be fueling this fire. In Jesus mighty Name! Amen!!! There. Now lets move forward transformed and closer to really being like Jesus. Since He lives in us I guess we better continue clearing out our muck so it is a mansion instead of us being a slum lord for him. Read below for another good take on this verse. Love you. Chief. We do this carelessly every day, make a negative comment towards someone and brush it off as a joke. However this is a treacherous act that is damaging to that friend and any onlookers who think of you as a friend.
